This series by artist Padmini Mehta attempts to capture different places as cityscape — big and small, religious and modern, rich in history, soaked in tradition, lucky to be regional flag-bearers — as heritage symbols.
Her paintings are an offering of gratitude and concern for their unique character, mood, architectural value and colour. Varanasi and Jodhpur sit beside Lucknow, Kolkata, Delhi and Thimphu; the series travels as far as Russia, and everywhere it holds the same question: what does a city keep of itself?
