Siddharth Jharia

Siddharth Jharia is an architect by academics and an artist by birth. He completed his B.Arch. at IIT Roorkee (erstwhile University of Roorkee) in 2000 and is pursuing a successful career in architecture and interiors. Siddharth used watercolour only in academics until 1997–98. Eventually, almost twenty years later in March 2017, he felt an urge to pursue fine art alongside his primary profession.

It was a moment of great pride when the legendary artist and sculptor Padma Bhushan Ram Vanji Sutar appreciated his work, saying Siddharth has a natural hold on a medium as hard as watercolour — which is not common.

Siddharth captures ordinary people in their instinctive state; his paintings convey moods and expressions beautifully. His works are an amalgamation of brilliant colour, dynamic composition and meaningful messages. His key to a successful watercolour is self-assessment of mistakes, patient hard work and total dedication. He also considers oil, graphite, charcoal and Indian ink great modes to work in. Watercolour, the most unforgiving medium, poses serious challenges for any artist. Visualising the natural contour that creates a three-dimensional figure is a basic trait of an artist, and sculpting with air-dry clay interests Siddharth greatly, as it adds that third dimension physically into the artwork.
